Victoria’s Marine Safety Regulations
We are here to assist with all your boating Fire protections needs
Victorian boating laws require most powered recreational vessels to carry dry chemical powder fire extinguishers. Vessels under 8 metres require one extinguisher, vessels between 8 and 12 metres require two, and vessels over 12 metres require three. Extinguisher size depends on the amount of fuel carried on board. Fire extinguishers must be readily accessible, maintained in good condition and suitable for marine use.
NEFPS can supply, inspect, test and replace marine fire extinguishers for recreational vessels, ski boats, fishing boats and commercial craft throughout Bright, Lake Buffalo, Lake Hume, Dartmouth and the Alpine region.

Under Victoria’s Marine Safety Regulations and the Victorian Recreational Boating Safety requirements, a recreational vessel must carry dry chemical powder fire extinguishers if it:
- Carries fuel on board, or
- Has an electric start motor, or
- Has a gas installation, or
- Has a fuel stove.
